Private Points Of View

Written for:  Poetics Aside 2018 November PAD Chapbook Challenge – Day 5
For today’s prompt, write a private poem. For many poets, writing poems they keep private may be easy enough to accomplish. I know I’ve written thousands of poems for my eyes only. But I’m thinking of a poem that shares a private moment, or that is intended to be kept private between the poet and the reader. But it could also be about a private company, the rank of private in the military, or some other interpretation.

She knocked on a door that said, ‘Private’.
There was no way to peek inside the room.
No one answered her knock; she remained outside,
wondered who these chosen were, must be illumined.

In later years she accepted her differences,
found others also outside the herd.
In life she kept private some harbored thoughts,
and when she was in pain, used written words.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
