Wannabe Singer

Words:  pitch, promising, machine, sing, strand, fly, stick, journey, light, miss, years, talk

Like ya pitch, kid,
might have a promisin’
singin’ career. Takes
years of practice, though–
a journey ya might say. Think
of yer voice as a delicate
machine that needs to be
oiled. Stick around. Found
some people be good for ya
to talk with. Ya know, a lotta
kids come in on a fly,
that gleaming light
of hope in their eyes. Some
of ’em miss the ball, end up
stranded in the city.
Wish ya luck, kid.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

Better to have dreamt of fame and fortune that never ventured at all on an adventure. You never achieve anything without trying unless your parents have lots of money but then you will have had no experience whatsoever and will be a burden to everyone.

    Hope the kid makes it!
