Although I resolve not to buy any more makeup,
I easily lose that resolve and enter
the candy store of color,

although that does not mean I will definitely
purchase anything,

although, if  I check out samples, there is more
of a chance that I will.

Although I have shelves of poetry books,
there are so many poets I have yet
to discover.  I give in to temptation
and hit The Strand, Candyland of books,

although many are used and marked down,
so it feels like a bargain I cannot pass up.

Although, while inside the store, a soft
long-sleeved “Strand Books” sweatshirt
catches my eye,

although they might not have my size.
But they do.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
