Assurance of the Moon

Written for:  Poetic Asides 2018 November PAD Chapbook Challenge – Day 27
Two-for-Tuesday – Write a shaky poem.  Or . . . Write a sturdy poem.

I want to be wrapped in moon glow,
feel secure instead of astray.
Your wink and smile are my light show.

Sometimes my urge to let go
overcomes me; is there more to say?
I want to be wrapped in moon glow.

When you are surrounded by halo,
I long to be strong, find my own way.
Your wink and smile are my light show.

Where is my necessary confidence to grow?
Until I discover I have found it one day,
I want to be wrapped in moon glow.

Here I stand on ground, far below
where I know I must stay.
You wink and smile are my light show.

You seem so wise, my mellow fellow,
steady, unlike my own disarray.
I want to be wrapped in moon glow;
your wink and smile are my light show.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  1. “When you are surrounded by halo,
I long to be strong, find my own way.
Your wink and smile are my light show.” Your poem is a light itself.
