A Friend

Written for:  Poets United Midweek Motif~Surprise!  (posted by Susan)
Write a new poem with surprise as a recurring motif. The poem itself need not surprise, but if you can wake us up a little through a pleasant surprise, do!

“Expect nothing. Live frugally on surprise.” ― Alice Walker

A friend I wish
I had known better
in another state
of mind and time
is staying in touch–
much to my surprise,
and pleasure. We found
in each other, qualities
to treasure.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

“qualities to treasure”! A fine surprise when a move doesn’t cut the ties that bind! Thanks for posting!

“…and pleasure”. I too have friends from many years ago with whom I still keep in touch.
