Life On The Porch

Written for:  Poetic Asides #462 – “For today’s prompt, write a set poem. Collectors often try to complete the set, though some break up the set. Some people set the record straight. Some things need to set (like glue or paint). I hope you’re ready to set the world on fire with your poems. Ready, set, go.”

Yep, I know you,
set in your ways.
Come on up
the porch, and
set for a spell
with a fellow
curmudgeon. Take
a chair, that green
rocker over there.
See? It’s all broken
in for a man of your
shape and aches to fill
all the soft corners
and old cushioning.
You ought to try
a pipe. I’ve had
that pleasure for
years–relaxing–lets
a man think. Take
a drink of this here
lemonade. Made it
myself. We both lost
our wives ages ago.
I know it is still
tough. But tonight
the moon shines,
fireflies flicker,
a perfect summer
evening. So set
a spell.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
