A Suitable Gift

Written for:  Poetic Bloomings2 – Prompt #227 – “What’s In Santa’s Sack?”

This Santa is in a giving mood all the time, but even more so at this juncture of year. But, what about Santa?

Write a poem about a gift you would give to Santa if you could. Help fill his sack to take home and open with the Missus. (And I’m not talking about me, but the “real” Santa, remembering of course that we are ALL Santa Claus!)

I’ve wrapped this gift quite festively
please put it in your sack.
A brand new pair of Sketchers, objective:
to ease strain on Mrs. Claus’s back.

That’s not to lessen extent
of the toil and travel you do,
but keeping the Missus contented
is certain to benefit you.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
