The Welcoming

Written for The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #384

Words:  hope, flood, hypocrisy, seek, border, open, poor, joy, waste, risk, welcome, tired

I welcome you,
poor tired traveler.
It is a joy to open
my door to someone
who seeks shelter.

Please do not stand on
border, come in and rest.
I hope you are hungry;
Nothing here is wasted.
So nice to have a guest.

Have you come from flooded
lands? You have taken great risk.
In times of hypocrisy,
promises may fall short.
I welcome you into our midst.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
