Written for: Poets United Midweek Motif~Darkness Is . . . (posted by Sumana)
“Darkness was; is; will be. Is it intrinsically bad? Or is it something that lies in between good and evil? What color is it? Is it gray, black or white?
Is it a part of life? Is darkness a necessity?
What is darkness? When does it come? Where does it live?
There can be endless questions regarding darkness.
What do you think darkness is?
In your poem today be dark “
Colors, hues, and tinges
are closeted
along with rainbows,
suns, and moons. Silver
stars are offstage
waiting.
Pure darkness makes me
fear what might be there.
I question my own presence.
Frozen in place, my eyes
dart, blink, in hopes of
discovering the tiniest
hint of light.
I love the silver stars, offstage waiting.

The darkness here is vivid, almost tangible & feels so suffocating. A fantastic write.

Oh, yes, in theatre, it’s exactly that stage space and its anticipation. In the audience, I always gasp when the lights go to half and out for the show to begin. On stage, there’s always the “what if” what’s waiting in the wings isn’t the expected, isn’t light?

As long as we keep looking or the light, darkness will not intimidate or overwhelm us.
