Afternoon Sun

Written for:  Imaginary Gardens With Real Toads – “Finding A Moment”  (posted by Karin)
Toads! Manicddaily, Karin Gustafson here, wishing you all well.

“I’d like you to write about this very moment. That is, the moment in which you are sitting down (or standing up) to compose your poem. Ideally, I’d like you to write about that very moment in rhyme or meter–that is, with some element of musicality.

You can write the merest impression of this moment, or you can tell its fuller story. This impression or story can, of course, include other moments–moments which led to this moment, or that come to mind in this moment. Or, you can stick with what feels absolutely present right now.”

Afternoon sun
still warming a corner
of my couch, as I
implore one dog
to scoot over
to the other side.
I write; she curls
up on two pillows,
just waiting for me
to finish.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
