Sipping Sweethearts

Written for:  dVerse Poets Pub – Quadrille #74 – “sip”  (posted by Mish)

Sweethearts sat at a white
table on red vinyl seats. This
hot day, ice cream parlor was
packed, jukebox spun
tunes. They shared
an ice cream soda
in tall, fluted glass,
with two straws, sipping
from either side, blowing
bubbles when they hit bottom.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I imagined two young lovers in this delightful scene you have given us….but I read it again and pictured them in their 80’s. Sweethearts forever.

  13. A lovely moment in the style of realism. I loved Mish’s thought about the sweethearts being older people…proven love.
