Missing: Spring

Written for:  Poetic Asides #476 – Write a Spring poem.  Believe it or not, today is the first day of spring (and my little brother’s birthday!). So write about birds and bees. Or break lines over the lack of spring-like attributes in your neck of the woods. Maybe you still have snow, a lack of flowers, and/or the birds have not yet returned. Or take poetic license and write a poem about springy hair, mechanical springs, or natural springs. Spring to it!

The hedgehog calculated,
but he is not reliable.
Oddly-shaped pieces of
gray snow still dot
the streets. The crocus
croaked, a daffodil
popped up, and pushed
back into the earth.
Tulips scoffed, said,
do not hold your breath.

Spring had better show
before summer blisters
in. I was promised
four seasons.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
