After Hours Party

Written for:  Poetic Asides 2019 April PAD Challenge – Day 3
For today’s prompt, write an animal poem. The poem could be about an animal. Or it could just mention an animal in passing. Or include an animal in your title and fail to mention the animal once in your poem. Your poem, your rules.

For today’s challenge I invite you all to write about late night. Come share with us a poem that describes what goes through your mind or appeals to you during this time when the stars are somewhere behind the moodiness of the clouds.

Party begins at three AM,
mythical beings gather near.
Unicorn’s brilliance glows in glen.
Party begins at three AM.
Dragon holds fire, guards his friends,
phoenix lands bearing gifts with flair.
Party begins at three AM,
mythical beings gather near.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

Been to 3:00 AM started parties. Younger days, by us Zombies staying up really, really late. Our favorite was to leave the record player playing “Night train” over and over again.
