Poets are Dreamers

Written for:  Poets United Midweek Motif~Writing Poetry (Posted by Susan)

“Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.”
― Aristotle

“Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.”
–William Wordsworth

“In a New poem, tell us Why Write Poetry? and/or What Is Poetry?”

Poets write colors
that artists paint
with a brush. You see
those colors as your
own. A sonnet of love
may bring you to tears,
as a nonsense rhyme
will fetch a smile.
We are a capricious
lot, wilding our
imagination. Our dreams
dapple our writing
as an artist’s brush
a canvas.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
