The Art of Retirement

Written for:  Poetic Asides 2019 April PAD – Day 12
“For today’s prompt, take the phrase “The Art of (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write your poem.”

What pastime appeals to you,
something you have yearned to do?
Writing, painting, a sport or two,
perhaps fishing for marlin and blue,
or, making some homemade wine or brew.
Learn new instrument, or a few.
Mastering a new language would be a coup.
You need not live in a Xanadu
to watch brilliant birds from under a Yew.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
