Dear Alice

“For today’s prompt, write a correspondence poem. Maybe write a poem that would fit on a postcard or in a letter. Or write a poem about correspondence school. Or jump into newer forms of correspondence like e-mail or text messaging. Of course, not all correspondence is connected to communicating; sometimes one thing corresponds to another by being similar.”

Dear Alice,

We miss you, dear, and hope
you will return to us soon.
Cheshire promises to stay
visible loger, and Caterpillar
is willing to share his hookah.
Mad tea parties and un-birthdays
continue as usual, although
Dormouse has joined AA,
and White Rabbit has lost
his pocket watch. Even
the Red Queen misses you;
she promises not to cut off
your head. Please do come.

Yours,
Inhabitants of Wonderland

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
