Going West

Written for:  Sunday Whirl, Wordle #409

Words:  cages, soap, trip, border, evil, deny, cross, why, stench, floor, cells, sleep

He denied any evil crossed
our paths on trip to the western
border. Then why was the floor
blood-stained, and stench
like that of a caged dead animal?
No amount of soap and water
could wash away filth
that crept into every cell,
daring you to fall asleep.
Were we leaving hell
or entering it?

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

Another thought-provoking usage of the Wordle words, indeed.
