“For today’s prompt, pick a comics character, make that character the title of your poem, and then, write your poem. Comics characters include all your typical super heroes and heroines, like Spider-Man, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Captain Marvel. It also includes all those villains, like the Joker, Green Goblin, Magneto, and Catwoman. However, don’t forget those newspaper comic characters, such as Charlie Brown, Peppermint Patty, Garfield, and Little Lulu.”

He started with two strikes
against him–his name. Scored
when he married Blondie. He
adored her nearly as much
as those giant sandwiches
he concocted, bigger than
the average mouth. Oh how
he loved his naps. Would do
anything for a good nap,
once even using his employer,
Mr. Dither’s, office.  Clumsy,
bumbling but affectionate
and sweet. Even the family
dog, Daisy, followed him
wherever he went. He started
with two strikes against him,
proud to live up to his name.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
