“One Day I’ll Fly Away” Photography by Hayley Roberts Image Source

I can make myself
look like you.
A bird doesn’t wear
shoes, so I took
mine off. Picked
my thinnest dress
to wear so I will
not be too heavy.
I do not enjoy
being a ground
person, looking
at the same sidewalks
and walls every
day. I want to soar
like a bird, my wings
wide and feathery.
I can go anywhere,
and always see
new sights. You
watch me. Someday
I will be flying
alongside you.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

Love the way she was reaching toward and practicing her flight–I felt like she would manage it sooner than expected. 🙂

Oh to be free like a bird and transcend the limitations of gravity…
