“you look older”

Written for:  The Twiglets #137 – “you look older”

You look older than my Uncle Ted
and he’s dead.

Who says you look older?
Oh, the mirror.

As a teen she colored her hair
to look older. As an adult
she colors her hair to look

I look older now because
I am, but young thoughts
dance in my head. My heart
can still pound with excitement,
or break with sorrow.
I look older now, and that
is the only layer you see.

She was told that wisdom comes with age
We all await that intelligent stage
The older she gets
the more she forgets
so turn the page, she will never be sage.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
