The Carefree Couple

Surrounded in clear glass,
the entryway offers a spectacular
view of lush grounds, and snow-
peaked mountains. Owners are
a shallow pair, no doubt new
money. But money carries
weight in this county. The couple’s
favorite entertainment is racing
off to auctions where they spend
countless funds to outbid
other potential buyers. One night
while laughing, drunk, and
driving, they crashed their
car–in a bizarre twist of fate–
into their own glass entryway.
Their car and all their fine
art pieces went down the tubes.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

Not sure quite what to say. Whilst not empathising with them neither do I wish them harm or their collection! However drink driving is a curse and fortunately no innocent people were affected. Your writing was clear concise and apart from the smug comment about the loss of all their art pieces in the crash the account is sadly so typical of careless driving these days. I understand that wearing of seatbelt is not totally compulsory in the States. I certainly hope that changes soon.

Ah, an example of poetic justice with a touch of glass!
