“questionable Ancestry”

Written for:  The Twiglets #141 – “questionable ancestry”

I have a question
regarding my ancestry–
Will I still be me?

She was thrilled.
Her ancestry papers
arrived. She tore open
the envelope with her
fingers, only to discover
that she was descended
from Irish Wolfhounds,
English Springer Spaniels,
and German Shepherds.

she sighs heavily
preoccupation with death
Irish ancestry

A lad from the highlands of Scotland
loved a lass whom he thought had forgotten him
She was from Germany
They met on a journey
When he found her, her new name was Edmund.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

These are all marvellously imaginative. Well done.

  3. I love those opening lines Sara,
    ‘I have a question
    regarding my ancestry–
    Will I still be me?’

Fun take. All – Some of us can’t go all that far back. Just a couple of generations.
We tease that our children are Heinz 57. OK not that many but six different countries and possibly more different regions within those countries. Unfortunately due to wars some records are lost forever. And I know enough to know I know enough.
