“Write your poem celebrating the day or celebrate the arrival of Autumn.”
Spring jumped in for
a second round, elbowing
autumn out of the way.
Today I see crinkled
paper bag leaves on
the ground. Two choices
of color–green or brown.
All trees in my neighborhood
have banded together in
Spring green. Autumn is
brick-red, gold, and pumpkin
orange. I am not seeing this.
No complaints about this lovely
dry week, and the shops are
stocked with pumpkins, hay
stacks, cinnamon candles,
and scary monsters that light
up for your lawn. I am ready
for new colors. Perhaps I’ll
buy some mums.
