Written for: Poetic Bloomings2 – For Your Consideration: Curtain Call
“Your poem/story begins with a character peeking out from behind
a closed curtain. Action!”
A red curtain! Of course.
She wouldn’t have it any
other way. A soft gray
would have been a flattering
color. She knows red is
not a good look for me.
An aging man entering
from a scarlet curtain.
I will look like white
death, blood drained.
Pains me to play opposite
her, but I am not in
a position to turn
down roles. Oh the
tales her mother must
have told her about me.
Too late now for
explanations. I wanted
to be a part of her life,
but my ex-wife kept
her from me. At least
she has my good looks,
and not her mother’s
close-set eyes, where
schemes and lies live.
Oh, there’s my cue. Smile.
