What is your Recipe for a Healthy Life?
What foods do you eat (or wish you were eating)??

“There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

Since I am not
a picky eater,
I can be satisfied
with almost anything.
Lately, though, I have
had a falling out
with vegetables. Other
than spinach, collards,
or broccoli rabe, I
am not motivated to
cook vegetables.
Fortunately, I love
avocados, bananas,
most fruit, beans,
and nuts. I have
actually come to
prefer brown rice
over white. Try to
eat fish at least
once a week. Cooking
for several people
is very satisfying,
and there’s always
the fact that I love
to bake.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

Oh nice how good that you eat brown rice. I prefer that as well A lot healthier but my husband doesn’t enjoy it. I love nearly all veges but avocados are my favourite. They are so good in New Zealand We also try to eat fish once a week

Fun! It’s good to check in on these relationships! I imagine all of us reading your poem now sitting down to see who we’re close to and who we’ve been ignoring. I sure wish I enjoyed baking.

I love brown rice, especially short grain. And love a kitchen where something’s cooking.

  4. Sounds great to me! 🙂

  5. Sara,
I think that we can have relationships with foods, just like with people. Much depends upon moods and often the weather.
I love time in the kitchen, when my creative mood is present!

I am always happy to experiement with cooking, trying different vegetables to vary my meals. I even bring my slow cooker out once in a while. By this reassuring the members of my kitchen staff (me) untensils and ingredients they are not forgotten. Yes and like you it is fish once a week!
