“the night sleeps”

Written for:  The Twiglets #149 – “the night sleeps”

night sleeps
during the day
while day is on
call. Day dissolves
in increments
until night is fully
awake to host stars
and moon.

While the night sleeps,
safety, security reigns.
While the day sleeps
dark deeds are done.

impatient day
long lasting in summer
waits for night to rise

A vampire from Transylvania
Moved his coffin to Pennsylvania.
While he was en route
light of day failed to mute
Opened too soon, he lay pale as a white petunia.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

    Lovely atmospheric pieces!
I had to laugh at the limerick out loud – Seeing as I live in Penn’s Woods!
At least there’s one less blood sucker… now what can we do about the politicians? 😀
