“Tell a tale using nothing but dialog between characters.”

You are lucky you don’t have
to go out in the rain.

True, but you can take walks and
smell cool things.

I do love smelling honeysuckle
bushes, old pee on fire hydrants,
and Hostess wrappers. I cannot,
however, leap from floor to table
to windowsill like you can. Must
be fun.

I have myself a time all right,
especially when I can get my
paws on some catnip treats.
Wild times, my friend.
I do not think you should give
that plainly biased toy
so much as a woof.
At least
we’re buddies.  We can
curl up together, me
you purring.

I am totally insulted.  Would
not go near it.  You are
best friend.  I would
tell them
that you clawed open

a section of sofa,
or hid your mouse.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
