“Along my journey
through this transitory world,
new year’s housecleaning”

– Matsuo Basho

I thought we all had a new beginning to our year.
Instead the old year’s garbage is still rotting, dotting
the surface of new year’s canvas.

Woke up several days ago to discover that our pugnacious
president had an Iranian general taken out, without the
knowledge of congress. He is making a case for War bringing

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

A pugnacious peacock indeed. With all that is happening, I am finding myself beyond words.

  2. the metaphor you wrote here is a creative genius. indeed a turbulent year ahead because of a single choice. sigh. may 2020 shift to a more positive road.

Heaven help us lest that peacock sends our young men into a battle that is not ours. We share your concerns. Love that haiku!

2020 — that’s the year we are now in. It also means 20 – 20: visual acuity. May people wake up on election day and may we be rid of this occupant and may his bigoted and fool hardy followers come to grips with the evil and harm that has besieged us in so many areas these past 3+ years.
