Written for: dVerse Poets Pub – Tuesday Poetics with Lillian
“Take a moment and listen to these tunes on the links below. And when they get you in the mood, how about writing a poem that takes us inside a dream? It can be your dream or someone else’s dream. Are you sleeping in a bed during this dream? Sitting on a train dozing? Leaning up against a tree staring at the clouds? Does your dream take you beneath the seas? Into the clouds? Or maybe you’re on a stage flooded with the smoke of dry ice? Is your dream triggered by a scent? By a song? By a photo you came across? Let your imagination drift and take us with you into a dream!”
I’m a dream weaver
runnin’ down a dream,
on the Boulevard of
Broken Dreams.
I’m California dreamin’;
hope the dream police
don’t come to my door.
Sometimes I feel like
I’m dreaming a dream
within a dream, lazing
on the river of dreams.
Most times I’m just dreaming,
and when preferable to life,
I just dream on.

You’ve woven an interesting piece around song titles. Loved the last bit: “when preferable to life,
I just dream on.”

I love the thinking around dreaming within a dream, layers, which is how This poem works for me.

Very clever to run with the dream theme and continue with Lillian’s song inspirations, all while creating a fine stand alone found poem. Like!

This was fun! I sang along with you, in a combination I’d never even considered before! Though the dawn may be coming soon, there still may be some time.
