No Marketing Skills

Written for:  Poets and Storytellers United – Weekly Scribblings #6:
Turn cliché into poetry or prose.  Take as many clichés as you like.

Someone keeps throwing
lemons at me. Quick,
get the sugar and water.
Our stand is set up, so
how much should we charge?

Time is flying; we haven’t
had a single customer
yet. I think this business
is an uphill battle.

Look, let’s call it a day,
okay? We’ve got nothing
to bring to the table.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

Reading all the ‘cliche’ poems has made me really curious about their origins ~~~ like bringing something to the table!

  3. Sarah, I really love the conversational tone of this poem. I can almost imagine her in front of a judge telling the court that enough is enough.
