In Autumn’s gold
woods, the women
meet as they do
each year, a ritual
that allows them
to cherish each
other and their
extraordinary
companions of the wild.
Dark-haired woman contrasts
with her white wolf, pale
blonde woman’s skin
is set off by startling
red fox, and red-haired
woman hugs black wolf.
All three women take
the forms of their
charges, all of whom have
long, bushy tails that
wrap around women’s necks
in dead of Winter.
I love their “extrordinary companions of the wild.” And I can SEE those bushy tails wrapped around their necks in winter.

This would be a fun outing, Sara. For ladies!! The last lines sneak up, “all of whom have
long, bushy tails that wrap around women’s necks in dead of Winter.: I.e., they will be killed for their fur before winter. Yikes!!!
