Why Am I Here?

Written for:  Poetics Aside April 2020 PAD Challenge – DAY 13
Write a purpose poem.

We forever ask, why am I here?
Ponder it some, then feel a tear
begin to fall. You do not know, yet you fear.

Maybe to some the answer is clear.
Is there a reason, I ask, sipping a beer,
but the beverage says nought that I can hear.

Shall I seek out a Buddhist to lend me an ear,
or will he suggest, find you own answer, dear.
I hope it does not involve a career.

When I am no longer here, will you shed a tear, let go your fear?

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  1. That question must most certainly come up quite a lot these days
