World View

Written for:  Go Dog Go Café – Tuesday Writing Prompt – “My World”

A deep feeling
of sadness permeates
my world. Why does
it feel overwhelming
all at once, I wonder.
Deaths of family,
and friends, changes
in relationships,
dreaded killing virus.
Yet, these events have not
all occurred simultaneously.
One small stone at a time drops
until they unite, and I
am hit by a boulder.
Perhaps because my time
left on earth is on the shorter
end. A deep feeling
of sadness permeates.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I completely understand–“being on shorter end” we accumulate losses and sometimes feel them more acutely than others.

It does seem rather dark, but I confess I have been feeling this way, too. You description of the many pebbles becoming one large boulder is powerful and real.
