Write a praise poem

A sense of humor is vital,
better than sitting idle.
Remember, in blackest mood
the name ‘pickle’ denotes a funny food.

When I think of a cousin I have lost
I see her laughing at a political boss.
She would say the most outrageous things.
If people didn’t get her, it added zing.

Now in midst of an awful disease
create your own fun if quarantined.
I saw a woman make a mask from a bra,
made people laugh from near to far.

And so I praise those who can laugh
including myself, though I might be daft.
Think of something you find funny,
it doesn’t cost you any money.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
