Amusement Park Wishes

Written for:  The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #460

Words:  rights, envy, goofy, pray, me, waver, history, war, dismaying, threat, meant, jeopardized

I prayed I could be
Goofy at Disney World,
but it was not meant
to be, for me. Maybe
I would have not been
right for the job. Now,
I do not envy those poor
people dressed as characters,
in sweltering costumes. With
a virus threatening, they would
need to wear a mask, a task that
would be dismaying to children,
Nevertheless, you cannot waver
when lives are in jeopardy. History
tells us that more people have
died from Corona virus, than those
who served in the Viet Nam war.
I would have loved to be Goofy–
at least for a day, just not today.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  1. Unfortunately even cartoon characters have to be careful these days. I’d want to be one too, under much nicer cirumstances.
