Off Trail

Off trail.  We set
up camp, yearning
for crackling sounds
of a fire burning.
Chill in the air,
as we look for mountain
top. Know we will awake
to birdsong, Monarch
butterflies, and scent
of ashes from last night’s
smoke. Currently,
a vapor veils treetops.
We chop extra wood.
When you set up camp,
be prepared for any
twist of fate in
the weather. Oh,
please pass me
some marshmallows.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  1. Ahhhhhhhhh. Yes. Now, that’s the gig. Preparation for safety and warmth preparing for whatever comes for expansive experiences… life expanding like waking up to stretch in the forest on the mountain in the morning. Wonderful, experiential scene you’ve word-painted.

      • You’re most welcome, Purple (great color by the way, very regal). 🙂 There was just such an Expressionist bent to your words, I felt I was at a canvas again painting in oils with my hands and fingers with my thick Don’t-Get-Van-Gogh-Poisoned-By-Cadmium,etc silkscreen gloves on.

Word-painted. It just kinda dropped out. It just kinda dropped out and, “Yes! That’s some good stuff. Keep THAT.” 🙂

      • Do you still paint? I took some drawing lessons, but it’s been so long now since I’ve attempted a sketch.

      • I haven’t in years, about to start in again, though. I’ll go in long-form cycles through my Tarot, Architecture, Writing, Astrology, Poetry, Policy Writing, etc etc, and general creativity bringing things to be made that are months/years/decades long. They are all typically present, though painting submerged itself after some intense experiences around 2000 to take the long road home back to this summer.

Been a long time for me as well, and I’m thoroughly looking forward to have to acclimate to how I paint/draw now. It’ll most likely be a surprise. I hope it goes in the 🙂 direction.

It’s far more important the way it comes across….

“Runt ya Gsmut”? Wow. Sure, i think it a good thing to minimize myself before I Luke Skywalker enter that place? Wow. That sure sets any of us up for success. ;). WOW. 😉 to EVERYONE.

Autocorrect often makes me write things I didn’t Nintendo.
These days, PROOFREADING is not enough to address the bully of AutoCorrect. May I suggest moving to Texas Anderson invoking vigilance?. 🙂

      • 🙂 I have it at the bottom of my email footer below the signature contact stuff. It’s funny when someone reads a short email and sees it for the 1st time. THey are talking and along and then EXPLOSION OF LAUGHTER. “Oh, I gues you noticed it?” “Hell yeah, that’s hilarious!”

Thanks for liking that one. It’s a fave of mine, especially because I don’t play video games..
