“Things are Different At the Lake”
“Write a poetic scene of something you’ve seen at the beach. Could be the waves upon the shore. Or the raucous birds pestering. A lifeguard’s intensity. Young lovers hand -in-hand along the water’s edge. If you can envision it, you can write it. Be expressive and passionate. That’s what we poets do!”
Dappled in shadow
of sunsetting
sky, rocks piled
high against
ocean. They are
chairs for couples,
and families–cameras,
and binoculars at
the ready. Fireball
sun stretches to form
a headband in the sky.
Sinking, sinking ’til
it casts ripples of
red across the water.
Lower, lower ’til
purple curtains draw
the night closed.
