Take Another Piece

What’s The Lyric?

“As with movie quotations, song lyrics offer a chance to cull some inspiration from their expression. Find something you like in one of these, or take a line from a song of your choosing and use it as an epigram upon which to base your poem. Be sure to credit the line to the artist/song or composer/song.”

“take another piece of my heart”
– Janis Joplin

Aren’t there just
so many pieces
that make up
a heart? Bruised,
battered, and torn,
yet another piece
is ripped out.
Is there no such
thing as the worst
possible pain? No.
One more stab
at the heart,
has broken you, but
your heart remains
beating, blindly.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
