She waits for the owl
to whisper wise words
in her ear. She is
lost–dreaming, awake–
no rightful place.
‘You are part of my
tribe, my dear. See
how we both sport
fearsome freckles?
Once you wore feathers
in orange and blue,
lost to you now.
Come with me. I will
show you the way
back to our people.

About purplepeninportland
I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York.
My goal is to create and share poetry with others
who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve
in you, and feel your sparks as well.
Oodles of warmth for me, Sara. The last seals my thoughts.

I would love to be escorted back to our people, in times of living sustainably on the land.
