They Tell Us What To Choose

Written for: Go Dog Go Cafe (Posted by Devereaux & Amanda)
"Write a piece of prose or poetry around the idea
of choice. With so much decided for us in society,
do we really get to "choose?"

We congratulate ourselves
for voting, but does it count?
That selection is decided
by the Electoral College.
They have the power
to discount the popular vote.

Do you think every American
has the chance to grow up
and be President. You have
to have money, and, more
times than not, you have
to be white.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
