Meaning Of Loss (remixed)

Written for: Poetic Asides PAD November 2020 Challenge - Day 28

"For today’s prompt, write a what's next poem. Do you see hope and optimism? Are you only able to see doom and dismay? Or is it possible you can see a mix? Whatever the future means to you, write what's next in your poem."

Why were we in
her house
without her?
Reality throws
a gut punch
casting a blue
shadow over
our hearts.
A house brimming
with quick wit
and laughter falls
silent, cold.
Community friends
and family gather
to celebrate
her life. As I
read a dedication
poem, I turn toward
the doorway, expecting
her to walk in.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
