Behind the emerald curtain
there is a sorry sight to see-
an addlepated alien
in charge
of pulling strings. We
are the puppets,
slave to his whims.
A change of curtain
seems in order.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York.
My goal is to create and share poetry with others
who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve
in you, and feel your sparks as well.
“Behind the emerald curtain/there is a sorry sight to see-” Like minds?
A fun write. Hard not to laugh when I see it side-by-side with the Alice illustration wallpaper.
Yep, we be being played… time for a curtain call.
A nice write, Sara. We have plenty of those addlepated folk to replace him. I had to look that word up; addled + pated, pate for “head”. Now I know but isn’t really in my speaking vocabulary. I had a hard time getting ‘pertabate ‘ in there.
..
Perhaps we should replace the addlepated alien and not the curtain! At any rate we definitely need a fix!! I love resurrecting the old words. They spice things up, doncha think? Great write!

The Mad Hatter never misses a curtain call, while the White Rabbit is perpetually late.

Addlepated ranks up there with gormless!! A gentler form of acknowledging stupidity. Love your poem!
