Making Up For Lost Time

Written for: Sunday Whirl, Wordle #497

Words: wait, lift, above, below, defy, figure, table, blow, sigh, fly,
        sow, tip

He was a defiant figure
of a man. Lifted weights
above his strength. He tabled
his past inactivity. Both men
and women far below his age,
without patronizing him,
encouraged a short wait
between exercises–a tip
to anyone starting late
in life. He sighed, blew
them off like annoying
flies. He felt little
time was left for him.
He had to sow the seeds
left dormant for too
long. He was a defiant
figure of a man, they said
afterwards.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I behaved this way when it came to exercise when I was younger. I had orthorexia as well as bulimia. It contributed to some of the physical problems I have now in my middle years.
