“mouthful of gum”

Written for: The Twiglets #222 - "mouthful of gum"

Although she had lost
all her teeth
she still had a mouthful of gum.

My best friend drove
my father crazy
with sounds of popping
gum and blowing bubbles
whenever she visited.

lost in thought
feeling the heat of Summer
under sweet gum tree

There once was a champion boxer
         not defeated, an excellent blocker
'til he fought Keith The Beast
who knocked out all his teeth
Now he gums cakes made by Betty Crocker.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
