Afternoon Tea

Written for: April 2021 PAD Challenge - Day 23
"Write an appointment poem."

I must not tarry and risk being late,
this special afternoon tea's delightful.
A table is set for twelve who won't wait.
We laugh, we argue, and have some trifle.

little cakes
frosted, sprinkled
teacups move 'round
cream and sugar

With no invitation, here comes Alice
in blue as usual. She is welcome.
The dormouse possibly will be awake,
I must not tarry and risk being late.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
