You overcame a brutal
childhood trauma
     and rose above it

You wrote, and sang
with a light-filled shining face
     so free

You knew the secret
of the caged bird
     sharing it

You wrote, A Letter To My Daughter
though you did not have one
     you dreamed

I saw you on stage, lit from within
unforgettable experience
     you lived
