One True Sentence

"Pick one of Hemingway's quotes to be inspired by,
and write a poem."

Time has been divided
into days, hours,
minutes. Time is only
an idea. Now is your
moment. Observe all
that surrounds you,
before now becomes
then.

"There is nothing else than now. There is neither yesterday, certainly, nor is there any tomorrow. How old must you be before you know that? There is only now, and if now is only two days, then two days is your life and everything in it will be in proportion."
–For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940)

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
