Life Stagnates

Write about change/renewal

Stagnation
Still as a silent lake
turned to glass
in winter.
There is no backward.
I move forward
by rote. Pulsing,
pounding heart beats
faster and faster–
a galloping horse
racing to escape
stagnation.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  1. Hmmm, this succeeds in being rather disturbing! And, as always, very well described.

I only just saw your link at P&SU, and from the lack of other comments it appears that many missed your late entry. I don’t mean to imply it was past the deadline – but although the prompt stays open all week, people seldom check back. Feel free to post this again on one of our free-for-all Sundays if you wish.
