Teen vs. Parents

Written for: The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #523

Words: drawing, space, time, beaches, mission, murder,
boat, tight, speedy, air, found, weapon

Do not make it
your mission
to spend all your
time at the beach,
dear. I understand
how drawn you are
to oceans, but air
is still, sun is
murder. Why that
tight clenched jaw
whenever I make
a suggestion? Dad
is checking to see
if there is space
on the boat for
us to take a dinner
cruise. We want
you to join us. Well,
that was a speedy no.
Don't think you
can use a painful
sunburn as a weapon
to get out of our
plans for tonight.
This place was
a lucky find.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
