Absence of Clocks

Written for: Miz Quickly - Day 19
"Write about dealing with time."

Never a clock
in a doctor's
waiting room.
I play 'guess
what time it is?'
Pull out my phone
to check. Oh, it has
only been ten minutes.
I estimate another
fifty until they deign
to call my name. Wall
of magazines presents
founts of medical
information. I came
prepared. Open my
book. Now I begin
counting chapters.
Every stop to think
how many hours
in your life are spent
in waiting rooms?

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
